About Us
Founded in 2016 by David Gardner and his father, Myron Gardner, Gardner Cattle is a premier cattle operation based in Killen, Alabama, located in the northwest corner of the state. The company began with a herd of commercial cows, acquired with the guidance of Jim Akin, a local Charolais breeder and former President of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association in 2015.
Inspired by a visit to Triple C Black Herefords, owned by their friend Charles Crow, Gardner Cattle shifted its focus to the Black Hereford breed. The company is dedicated to producing exceptional Black Herefords that meet the highest standards of quality for discerning cattlemen. To achieve this, Gardner Cattle employs advanced breeding techniques, including Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer programs, to enhance the herd’s genetics. All cattle are DNA tested, possess genomic-enhanced Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs), and have performance weights meticulously recorded to ensure superior quality and consistency.
David resides on the farm with his wife, Lori, and their son, Grant, overseeing daily operations and upholding the family’s commitment to excellence in Black Hereford production. Gardner Cattle remains steadfast in its mission to advance the breed through the strategic use of the finest Black Hereford and Hereford genetics available.
